1. Who we are
WAINDIAN (waindian.com) is a community-driven discovery service based in Bellevue. The name stands for WAtsApp + INDIAN. We help people find WhatsApp and Telegram groups relevant to Indian families and individuals everywhere — across the United States and worldwide. WAINDIAN itself does not operate, moderate, or control the WhatsApp or Telegram groups it lists; each group is independently run by its own admins. We are not affiliated with WhatsApp, Meta Platforms, Inc., Telegram, or any of the groups we help you discover.
2. What information we collect
We try to keep data collection to the minimum needed to run a useful directory.
When you submit a group
When you fill out our “Submit Your Group” form, we collect:
- Group name, category, short description, group type (local / remote / both), city, and country
- WhatsApp invite link, Telegram invite link, and optional group website
- Your name, email address, and WhatsApp phone number
- Optional logo or title image, if you upload one
We use this information to review your submission, contact you about it if needed, verify that you are an admin or authorized representative of the group, and — if approved — publish the group name, category, description, city, country, website, logo or title image, and approved invite links publicly on the directory. Your personal email, name, and WhatsApp phone number are not published on the public site unless you separately ask us to display them as public contact information. Your phone number is used only for admin verification and direct communication about your listing, and it is never sold.
When you post a Telegram marketplace listing
Some WAINDIAN group pages may show marketplace listings submitted from a linked Telegram group. If you post a listing using the group’s marketplace format, we may collect and display listing details such as item name, category, price, condition, pickup location, notes, your Telegram first name, your public Telegram username if you have one, the original Telegram message link, and optional external links you include.
Marketplace listings are intended to be public. They may remain visible on WAINDIAN until they expire, are marked sold or hidden, or are removed by WAINDIAN or a group admin. We do not collect or publish your phone number from Telegram marketplace posts.
When you ask a group admin a question or claim a listing
If you use an “Ask Admin,” “Claim This Listing,” contact, or community-interest form, we collect the information you submit, such as your name, email address, phone number if requested, group name, and message. We use it to route your request, verify ownership or admin status, respond to you, and keep a record of moderation and listing decisions. When you ask a listed group admin a question, your name, email, and message may be sent to that admin so they can reply directly.
When you browse the site
We do not require accounts or logins to browse. We may use standard web server logs and Google Analytics 4 to understand page-level traffic, such as pages visited, approximate location, device and browser type, referral source, and general usage patterns. Google Analytics may use cookies or similar technologies. We use analytics to improve the directory; we do not sell or rent analytics data to advertisers.
When you contact us
If you use our contact form, we retain your message and email address only for as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of moderation decisions.
3. How we store and share your data
WAINDIAN is a small, static site with a lightweight infrastructure:
- Hosting: The site is hosted on Netlify.
- Submissions and listings: When you submit a group, claim a listing, or create a Telegram marketplace listing, the data is stored in Supabase so we can review, approve, reject, verify, publish, expire, hide, and maintain listings.
- Uploaded images: Optional group logos or title images may be stored in Supabase Storage and, if approved, displayed publicly on the group page.
- Forms: Some contact, claim, and question forms may also use Web3Forms, which delivers messages to us by email.
- Email correspondence: Emails we send from our domain are processed through Mailgun.
- Analytics: Site analytics are processed through Google Analytics.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy policies. We do not sell or rent personal information. We share personal information only as described in this policy, such as processing submissions through our service providers, routing Ask Admin messages to the relevant group admin, complying with law, or protecting users and the public.
If we change providers or add other storage systems in the future, we’ll update this policy to reflect that. We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
4. Your choices
- Remove your group: If you submitted a group and want it removed from the directory, use our contact form and we will take it down, typically within a few days.
- Correct your submission: If any details are wrong, send us the correction via the contact form.
- Access or delete your data: You can request a copy or deletion of the personal information you provided. Deletion may mean your group listing is removed from the public directory.
5. Disclaimers about listed WhatsApp and Telegram groups
WAINDIAN is a discovery service, not an operator. We help you find WhatsApp and Telegram groups, but we do not run, own, moderate, or control any of them. Each group is operated independently by its own admins.
When you click a WhatsApp or Telegram invite link on WAINDIAN, you leave our site and enter a third-party group governed by that platform’s own terms and the individual group’s rules. Specifically:
- We make no guarantee that a group is active, safe, appropriate for a given audience, or accurately described.
- We are not responsible for any messages, media, solicitations, or conduct that occur inside a listed group.
- Joining a WhatsApp group means your WhatsApp profile, including phone number and display name, may become visible to other group members. That is a function of WhatsApp, not WAINDIAN.
- Joining or messaging through Telegram may reveal your Telegram display name, username, profile details, or other information according to your Telegram privacy settings.
- You are responsible for your own participation in any group and may leave at any time.
If you see a group on WAINDIAN that appears to be spam, scam, off-topic, or otherwise inappropriate, please let us know via the contact form and we will review it.
Marketplace listings and external links
Some group pages may include marketplace listings created by group members or admins. WAINDIAN does not inspect, own, sell, ship, broker, or guarantee marketplace items. We are not responsible for item condition, payment, delivery, pickup, refunds, safety, taxes, warranties, legality, or disputes between buyers and sellers.
Marketplace listings may include links to third-party websites such as Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Nextdoor, OfferUp, Imgur, personal websites, or other services. Those external sites are governed by their own privacy policies and terms. WAINDIAN does not control those sites and does not endorse or verify their content.
Business-affiliated groups and the “Business” tag
Some groups listed on WAINDIAN are led by admins who have a commercial affiliation — for example, a licensed insurance producer, a real estate agent, a financial professional, an investment adviser, a tax professional, a tutor or coach running a paid service, a business owner, or a representative of a company or network. These groups are tagged with a visible “Business” badge on their card so that members can make an informed decision before joining.
WAINDIAN is not a party to, and is not responsible for, any products, services, insurance policies, investments, crypto or digital-asset products, private equity or private credit opportunities, trading signals, courses, coaching, recruitment, referrals, commissions, or commercial transactions that are discussed, promoted, recommended, or sold inside any listed group — regardless of whether that group carries a “Business” tag.
Specifically:
- We do not endorse, vet, license-check, or verify the quality, suitability, or legality of any product, service, insurance policy, financial product, investment opportunity, trading strategy, tax strategy, digital-asset product, or business offering mentioned inside a group.
- The presence of a group on WAINDIAN is not a recommendation of any admin, their employer, or any organization they represent. It is a listing, not an endorsement.
- Any purchase, policy, investment, contract, referral fee, down-line enrollment, or commercial arrangement you enter into with a group admin, a group member, or any third party introduced through a group is solely between you and that person or entity. WAINDIAN has no role in, and no liability for, those transactions.
- Before acting on any financial, legal, tax, medical, or professional information shared in a group, consult an independent, licensed professional who has no commercial stake in your decision.
- If you believe a group is being used primarily for unsolicited selling, aggressive recruitment, undisclosed commercial promotion, or practices that violate applicable law, please report it via our contact form and we will review the listing.
The absence of a “Business” tag on a group card is not a guarantee that no commercial activity occurs inside; it reflects only the information available to us at the time of listing. WAINDIAN reserves the right to add, modify, or remove the “Business” tag and the related disclosures on any listing at any time.
6. Disclaimers for group admins listing a group
If you submit a group for listing, you confirm that:
- You are an admin or authorized representative of the group, or you have the admin’s permission to list it.
- The invite link is current and the group is actively moderated.
- The group complies with WhatsApp’s or Telegram’s terms of service, as applicable, and applicable law.
- You accept that WAINDIAN may remove the listing at any time, for any reason, without notice — for example, if the group becomes inactive, the link breaks, or the group drifts off-topic.
Admin verification
Before a group is listed, we may verify that the person submitting is the actual admin (or authorized by the admin). This may include contacting you directly via WhatsApp on the phone number you provided, requesting a confirmation message sent from within the group, or other reasonable checks. Verification helps keep the directory trustworthy for users who rely on it to find authentic, well-moderated communities. We reserve the right to decline listings we cannot verify.
7. Children’s privacy
WAINDIAN is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. WhatsApp’s own terms require users to be at least 13 (or the minimum age in their country). If you believe a child has submitted information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site evolves. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top. For material changes, we’ll try to highlight them on the home page for a reasonable period.
